For many young drivers, passing your driving test is one of the best feelings in the world. Buying your first car is one of the most memorable moments in your life; however, looking for cheap car insurance can be a disaster.

Research recently taken out by Moneysupermarket.com, the UK's leading comparison site, has revealed that if you are a young driver you will tend to pay a lot more for your car insurance premium than somebody who is a few years older than you. Unfortunately, if you are a young male driver then you can expect to pay even more. The average premium for an 18 year old male who has just passed their test currently stands at around £2,200 a year.

The statistics show that younger drivers generally have to pay higher car insurance premiums due to the simple fact that they do not have as much experience as older drivers do.

Even though younger drivers won't see a significant decrease in the amount they pay for their premiums until they have had a few years of driving experience, there are still a few things you can do now to help reduce the amount you pay.

One of the most straightforward ways to reduce the amount you pay for your insurance is to start to keep a clean driving record and build up your no-claims discount. By driving sensibly, sticking to the rules and speed limits as well as remembering what you were taught in your lessons you shouldn’t have any problems. By keeping a clean driving record and building up no-claims discount for at least 5 years can see your premium discounted by as much as 75%.

Improving the security on your car can also help reduce the amount you have to pay. Parking your car on a driveway (preferably your own) rather than on the street can see your policy discounted by as much as 5%. Further reductions are made if your car is fitted with an alarm and an immobiliser.

A. Cheney’s Got A Pump

30 some years following his first heart attack, some new technology was installed in Dick Cheney’s chest, effectively bypassing his entire heart. The impeller blades, spinning at several thousand RPM, now move what purports to be human blood throughout his body and brain, without any beat at all.

Somehow that seems fitting.

When I was in the third grade, I had an epiphany. I clearly remember the circumstances. Each day, the school I attended would barricade the street in front, at either end of the block, giving us an asphalt playground after lunch.  One day, some “moran” decided to avoid the barricades, and drive her car on that street. A friend of mine was going after a ball, and bam, the next instant, she was laying on the street, out cold. Blood flowed from her face. Most kids were laughing, mainly because her undies were visible to all. But, in the span of a pico-second, I switched places with her, trying to see what she was feeling. I sensed the pain, the agony, the fear, and even more the embarrassment because so many students were pointing and laughing. As I said, it was an epiphany.
